CPR/AED and BLS Courses

The Michigan EMS Club offers CPR/AED and Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association to University of Michigan Students and the greater Michigan community. This class provides individuals with the knowledge and confidence to stay calm in a medical emergency, such as cardiac arrest management, and help a person in need. Classes and signups can be found below for individuals.

The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED for adults, children, and infants.

This course is the gold standard, and is required for most healthcare organizations across the US.

What does this course teach:

• High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

• The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components

• Important early use of an AED

• Effective ventilations using a barrier device/BVM

• Importance of teams in resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR

• Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
